Abstract: During the war Military Operations had code names. The name for the Invasion of Sicily was "Husky", an operation which took place fifty years ago. I am not going to comment about the operation itself but merely to recall its effect on everyday life in Malta at the time. Imagine what the simplest domestic operation, such as moving into a new house, involves. First of all this requires careful planning with the least inconvenience to the whole family. One has to bear in mind such things as holidays, transport of furniture, conveniently nearby shops in the new locality, schooling, family doctor and a bank. All these things have to be looked into very carefully. And that is simply moving house from one locality to another, even if perhaps to a different country. [excerpt]
