| Abstract: | In 1987 Malta added a new page in its annals of its rich history when it was the venue of a Summit Meeting between President Bush of the USA and Russian President Gorbachev - a meeting which heralded the dawn of new relations between these two powerful nations. Almost exactly ten years to that historic event - but on a different plane though equally historic - Malta was chosen to host the second Euro-Conference after the original one held in Barcelona, Spain. The Malta Conference, held at the Mediterranean Conference Centre, was attended by Foreign Ministers of all 15 members of the European Union as well as of 15 Mediterranean countries. In the latter group were Morocco, Algeria, Tunisia, Egypt, Jordan, Israel, Syria, Lebanon, the Palestine Authority, Turkey, Cyprus and Malta, the hosts of the Conference. [excerpt] |
