Abstract: The Sixth Edition of the Mediterranean Forum was held in Malta during early March, 1999. Participants were Ministers of Foreign Affairs from Algeria, Egypt, France, Malta, Portugal, Spain and Tunisia. Also present were the Under Secretary of State of Italy, Deputy Under Secretary of Turkey, Secretary General Economic Affairs of Greece and the Director of European Affairs of Morocco. In a preamble the Ministers recalled that the Mediterranean Forum provides its partners with the opportunity to address issues in a free and frank manner among its States and through this experience it brings a significant improvement in the quality of relations amongst its member States. In time of political stress the Mediterranean Forum partners contribute towards the promotion of peace and stability. Again through a sustained dialogue they have developed a common approach in the search of solutions meant to advance the general good of the partner countries and their Mediterranean neighbours. Thus the Forum promotes the reciprocal confidence amongst its neighbours and is an added contribution to regional and international stability. [excerpt]
