Abstract: This qualitative, research based thesis uses 2D animation, storyboarding, movies and traditional art to showcase the impact of World War II on Malta and its residents. To achieve this, the fundamentals behind animation and all connecting sources that make for effective animation were analysed. Focus was mainly placed on sound, artwork, suspense and art style. The National Archives of Malta, history books, articles, movies, short films and online sources were also referred to and consulted with in an effort to gain greater insight into the kind of lives Maltese residents led between the years 1940 and 1942. Illustration stills featured in this thesis especially in the project section and the appendix serve as the basis of the final animation product created. Indeed, they were moved and worked in a way to ultimately create a final animation product that incorporates these illustration stills to ultimately create a moving image.
