Voguing : dancing at the margins, remediated through digital animation

Abstract

This study revolves around two main disciplines; animation and dance. The aim of this project is twofold: To explore the movement and aesthetics of Voguing through the expression of animation and to understand how to capture and simplify complex movement through basic shapes and colour. These aims are achieved through the understanding of the historical context and evolution of Voguing and the Ballroom Scene and personal involvement and interaction with contemporary Voguers within the scene. The final project is a representation of the five elements of Vogue Fem remediated through 2D frame by frame animation.
