Abstract: This study deals with the relevance of space by highlighting the influence which spaces hold on the behaviour of society, as well as the consequences imposed by such spaces on society and the individual. It also aimed at understanding the attitude, priorities and approach taken by higher institutions when dealing with public space on a national level. This is done by comprehensively observing a site such as the ‘Suq tal-Belt’, which encapsulates values of local culture, sociality and authenticity. Observations were applied through the use of a post occupancy approach; which apart from shedding light on details which would generally go unnoticed, highlighted the contrast between the initial intentions and that which was actually received by the controversial market.
