Abstract: It was after a storm that Ulysses was shipwrecked on the island of Ogygia, where he was to spend seven years with the nymph Calypso. There was much controversy about the actual location of Ogygia, but by the 19th century, most scholars had agreed that the island was either Malta or Gozo. The author writes about the history and geography of the Calypso cave.
