Abstract: The purpose of this study is to set out the relationship Lasallian leadership has with servant, distributive and transformational leadership. The study will discuss the opportunities and challenges of Lay Leaders to enhance the Shared Mission by preserving the Lasallian legacy. Therefore, the research questions posed for this research were: i) how the Lasallian Leadership mission is being carried out by school leaders, ii) what are the characteristics of a Lasallian School and how can they be identified? iii) what barriers and challenges do Lay Leaders experience whilst carrying out the Lasallian vision? iv) is the Lasallian Leadership model still adequate for today’s world in order to be effective and practical in schools? This study had a mixed method design with a combination of both qualitative and quantitative research design. The study focused on taking different perspectives of ninety educators, seven Middle Leaders, two Head of schools and two Brothers regarding leadership styles in relation to Lasallian leadership. The mixed method design for data collecting allowed for a broader view and triangulation between participants. Seven main themes have emerged from the data gathered, which include: Lasallian identity, Quality and Inclusive education, Faith in the presence of God, Sense of community, Lasallian pedagogy and Shared Mission. The results indicated a general understanding of the Lasallian leadership. One of the main findings showed that more formation opportunities need to developed for all stakeholders to enhance the Lasallian mission. The data showed that although Lay Leaders may be faced with a number of challenges with adequate training and continuous formation they feel they will be able to enhance the Lasallian mission. The following key recommendations were made: to improve collegiality between Lasallians schools locally and abroad, to promote inclusion especially by encouraging more team work, collaboration and students’ achievements in order to develop and grow in a holistic way and to provide continuous development courses about the Lasallian ethos in order to keep De La Salle’s vision in the future.
