Abstract: Platinum is one of the metals that very readily form a large number of stable co-ordination compounds. Under the right conditions isomerism is exhibited (I, II, IV, V), and the ligands may be polydentate (III). The predominant valency states that PtII and Pt IV. PtIV complexes practically have a co-ordination number of 6 and a wide variety is known, for example all compounds from [Pt (Am6] X4 to M2PtX6 (X= Cl, Br, I, Am = amine). Almost all hydroxy halide salts from M2PtCl6 (chlorplatinates) to M2Pt(OH)6 (platinates) have been prepared.
