Pedro Almodóvar : film as a healing journey

Abstract

Pedro Almodovar: Film as a Healing Journey, presents an overview of Almodovar's film career as it attempts to decipher cohesive narrative structures in his treatment of various themes he addresses in his films, mainly focusing on the relationship between sex and death. In its course of investigation in the dissertation challenges Laura Mulvey's male gaze by referring to the director's own life experiences and his approach to recurring themes in his oeuvre. The paper focuses, though, to a greater degree on the director's trademark, which sets him apart from other masters of cinema. Finally, this paper attempts to chronicle Almodovar's film journey's cathartic effect both on his audience and himself.
