| Abstract: | The study investigates the methods of recruitment in Maltese radio stations regarding broadcast related employees, what station managers want to employ, as well as who they have employed so far. The aim of the research is to shed light onto ground which has so far been almost untouched by local research. The introduction of radio pluralism through the Broadcasting Act 1991 gave rise to many radio stations over a short period of time. These, in turn gave rise to new employment opportunities for those interested in the radio field. The study is divided into five chapters. The introduction serves outlines radio as a medium, a commercial venture, as well as the history of radio broadcasting in Malta. The second chapter discusses literature relating to what skills qualities and education candidates interested in radio should have. The third chapter discusses the methodology used; namely in-depth interviews to all radio station recruiting personnel and brief interviews with six radio station employees. The fourth chapter analyses the data collected through the interviews and the final chapter highlights conclusions and suggestions for further study. |
