| Abstract: | The study is intended to examine the Regional Libraries in Malta. The work focuses on three Regional Libraries: Mosta, Qormi and Rabat and on children and young adults aged from seven to sixteen. This work investigates whether these libraries are reaching their aims and functions. The reading habits of children and young adults as well as the symbolic value of the library are also examined. For the purpose of this study a mail survey was sent to 150 children and young adults. Interviews were conducted with the librarians at the Regional libraries and with the Head of Public Libraries, to gather information and attitudes regarding the Regional libraries. Field Observation was another method of research adopted to collect data. An analysis of the results is presented together with a comparison of earlier works carried out related to this subject. Summaries of findings together with attitudes and perceptions concerning the Regional libraries are included in the last chapters. i |
