| Abstract: | Our member Tony Eastgate, a well known Postal Historian has very kindly sent me this historical letter written on the 9th March 1799 by Sir William Hamilton, the British Ambassador at Palermo to Capt. Ball on the Alexander off Malta. In order to understand properly this Historical letter, and the Political Intrigue that was going on during these turbulent times in the Mediterranean, one must go back in history and recall certain significant events.
