Abstract: This dissertation discusses specific examples of stereotypical representations within a sample of Walt Disney animated features. Furthermore, the study also discusses the perspectives of a variety of media education theorists with regards to representations and audiences' attitudes and perceptions. The aim of this dissertation is to identify if the audiences of such features are aware of the presence of these representations and what are their attitudes towards them. This study discusses the audiences' reaction towards the representations and whether they chose to apply any form of media education with reference to representations in Disney texts. The study concludes with the analysis of the data obtained through the implementation of a qualitative research approach, utilising the instrument of focus groups and the findings extracted from these sessions.
