Abstract: Constantine Stanislavsky one of the world's most brilliant performers, wrote in his book "Stanislavsky on Opera": 'The purpose of finding the "core" in an aria, of revealing the bright, packed imaginary, thoughts and feelings exalted above everyday life, was to develop in a singer the sharp eye of an artist and the subtle sensitivity of a poet-musician". This dissertation accompanies my final recital, and seeks to examine in some detail, the arias and operas I chose to study. My study has helped me in my performance of these arias and also to be more consistent in the different styles I will be performing. The works I chose span from the baroque period to the contemporary. In my final recital and accompanying document I have chosen mezzo soprano arias that best suit my voice.
