Antiphons in honour of the Virgin Mary at the Augustinian Priory, Valletta

Abstract

The aim of this dissertation, "Antiphons in Honour of the Virgin Mary at the Augustinian Priory Valletta" is to emphasise the importance of local Maltese compositions in honour of the Virgin Mary. Two composers, Rev. Giuseppe Spiteri Fremond and Paolino Vassallo, a teacher and a pupil respectively, portray their devotion to this saint through different approaches due to their diverse musical style in their compositions. Each style and technique is uniquely used in these eight antiphons, displaying profound knowledge on the text used in each case.] The original sources of the music edited in this dissertation are all found at the Augustinian Priory Archives, Valletta.
