| Abstract: | This thesis summarises the perception of immigrant criminality in Malta and the effects of stereotype and xenophobia in labelling of Sub-Saharan African immigrants. What makes natives of host nations insensitive to the migrant situation and the deterrent strategies of law enforcement and the denial of due process. How does the presence of immigrants minorities affect the local community. How does restrictive and discriminatory immigration policies, racism, xenophobia, and their economic, social, and legal marginalisation affect their process of integration? How does this affect their future. Finding answers to such crucial questions is important in order to achieve a better understanding of the nature, causes, and consequences of this migratory phenomenon. Essentially, we will explore the possible common ground for acceptance, tolerance and integration. |
