Abstract: For the purpose of this study the most popularly rated Television talk show 'Xarabank' boasting an average audience share of 170,000 was analysed in terms of its portrayal of drug crime and its perpetrators in Maltese society. The six shows that were studied in detail were shown to have common themes between them such as the decriminalisation of drug use and that prison is no place for a drug user. The six shows incorporate their agenda through the use of fundraising activities via Caritas in order to fulfil their objective of raising awareness and financial means to build more rehabilitation centres for drug users. The producers of the show also highlight the fact that drug use is rampant in Malta and wanted to address the issue that this problem can affect every Maltese family if it is not addressed. The six shows were aired over a period of twelve years and were analysed in detail using a content analysis study to find out if such shows have an impact on public opinion. This research also explores if the producers use any tactical motifs to fulfil a specific agenda.
