Abstract

This coursebook is intended for the beginner of Maltese and assumes no previous knowledge of the language. Each chapter concentrates on a short list of vocabulary and provides the context for its use. Grammar points are introduced slowly and without requiring an effort to learn orthographic rules and etymological details that are too advanced for the attainment of the targets specified for this level. The attainment targets at the end of each chapter guide the learners to assess their own progress. The exercises in each chapter cover grammar points and the four language skills in order for the learner to assimilate the language efficiently and effectively. The listening tasks on CD support the communicative approach adopted in this book. Chapter 10 explains the grammar points in English. The conjugation of each verb introduced chapter by chapter is provided in the perfett and imperfett in Appendix 1. Appendix 2 gives the answers to the exercises in the book. [excerpt from Preface]
