Abstract: An alternative cooling arrangement for the end winding of a high voltage, strip wound, totally enclosed fan cooled induction motor is proposed. The study is undertaken using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) techniques and this is validated up by experiment. The cooling arrangement proposed gives a better distribution of heat transfer on the end windings as well as enhanced heat transfer on the end region frame, thus reducing the overall thermal resistance in the end region.
