Abstract: Certain patient groups are at high risk of developing venous thromboembolism (VTE), and those undergoing major orthopaedic surgery have a particularly high risk of postoperative deep-vein thrombosis (DVT) and pulmonary embolism (PE) without appropriate antithrombotic prophylaxis (1, 2).
