Abstract: Għarb is a village situated in the western part of Gozo; indeed the word Għarb in Arabic means west. Its area, when it still included the now independent parish of San Lawrenz, was four square miles. It is two miles away from Victoria, the capital city of Gozo. Għarb is divided into several parts joined together by a principal street. The main road which comes from Victoria is bisected at a locality known as "L-Ixtabi" which in Maltese means "the gates"; in fact it serves as a gateway to the village. A sidestreet from L-Ixtabi leads to "Ghammar" while the main road continues inwards until it is again bisected forming a junction know as "il-Fgura". On the left side of Il-Fgura a street leads to "Dwejra Bay". As one continues along the main road and turns left, one finds oneself in a newly developed area know as "Il-Wilga" meaning "plain" [...].
