Abstract: Research on prostitution in Malta is very limited and to compile the information for this paper I had to consult diverse academic sources, go to archives, and also do a number of interviews. While looking at the policies implemented in Malta at the beginning of 1900s it was imperative to consult a number of ordinances and government gazettes of this period and even before. One might notice that this chapter looks also at the 1800s. This period was considered relevant because the policies implemented in the nineteenth century under the British rule formed the base of the policies enforced later on in the twentieth century. To answer the queries on the contemporary aspect of prostitution I consulted the Vice Squad at the Malta Police Force. This helped to provide a more complete picture on the contemporary issues, policies and provisions, types of clients, and the costs and conditions that sex workers operate in Malta.
