Abstract: The aim of this project is to develop a Computer Programme which may be used to determine the optimum placement of shunt capacitor banks on primary distribution feeders. The programme is based upon three theories: the first deals with the determination of the optimum sizes and optimum locations of a number of fixed capacitors; the second deals with the determination of the optimum reactive load levels measured at the distribution center at which switched capacitors are to be switched on/off, and the determination of the optimum sizes and optimum locations of the capacitor banks; and the third deals with the determination of the optimum sizes and optimum locations of a number of considering the voltage profile along the feeder.
