| Abstract: | Last - but not least in our revolutionary progress is the crowing partnership between man and machine. The eighteenth century Industrial Revolution may soon take second billing to an "intellectual revolution". The concept of applying “intelligent machines" to many of man's fields of endeavour has existed for centuries, but only the evolution of electronic techniques made this concept a reality, One of the earliest such devices that man built was the abacus, This digital machine appears in history prior to the birth of Christ, The impetus of wartime activities (World : War 1) sphered development: with the ordinary, kind-operated tally counter evolving into the most highly sophisticated digital frequency counter, Ironically both operate on the sane principle: it either count one digit, or it does not. The title of this thesis, FREQUENCY MEASUREMENT, appropriately described its contents, Chapter 1 discusses the digital and/or analogue methods used for the measurement of frequency in the lower part of the Electromagnetic Spectrum, namely: the radio spectrum, in the microwave region, in the Infra-Red region, and for the L0—60HZ power frequencies, The thorough analysis used for the measurement of frequency by digital means is covered in chapter 2 [...] |
