Abstract: To the industrial. electronics engineer, the undergraduate and the service engineer the oscilloscope is perhaps the most useful test instrument. A multi-beam C.R.O. is most convenient. for it allows comparison of different signals for wave shaping or timing and makes obvious differences that otherwise would not be discernible. Expensive oscilloscopes obtain multiple traces either by beam splitting or more expensive still by having separate electron guns and deflection systems. However, a switching unit that permits the display of two or more different signals to be viewed simultaneously on a single beam C.R.O. greatly enhances the performance of an oscilloscope. Both dual. trace and four trace vertical display units have been designed and investigated in this project. [...]
