Abstract: My reason tackling the subject of ethical issues in libraries is, because it is an aspect that influences the way in which libraries are run, they determine what kind of material one may find in a library. I have argued and shown that information technology cannot be left out of discussing ethical issues the more information driven library that exists today. The complexity of considering data protection and privacy underlies this study. I have also tackled the subject of censorship, with special reference to my home country i.e. the Maltese islands. I have argued that there is much to be done in this regard and, that a liberal minded librarian should be willing to promote as much intellectual freedom as s/he possibly can in promoting intellectual freedom.
