Abstract: This book will not teach the user how to program in MACR0-11 assembly language or 8085A assembly language. But its purpose is to provide the reader with the necessary information to make effective use of the 8085A Cross-Assembler (XAS85). An introduction to assemblers is given in the first chapter. Chapters 2, 3, 4 and 5 form the main part of the "user's manual". They cover the Source Program Format, the Directives, the Operating Procedures and the Error Messages. In chapter 6 a brief description of the XAS85 program is given. Finally) the enhancements to the XAS85 program are discussed in chapter 7. The XAS85 is 8 Kbytes long and contains well over 2000 instructions. While no program of this length and complexity can be certified to be free of errors, the cross-assembler has been subjected to extensive use and testing and contains no known errors. If any are discovered by readers, either in the software or the text, the author would greatly appreciate being informed so they may be corrected. Suggestions for improvements and additions are also welcome.
