A guide to Malta Government publications in the Central Bank of Malta Library

Abstract

The Library in the Central Bank of Malta was founded in 1968 when the Bank was set up. Its services are used by a wide range of organisations both locally and overseas including government departments, parastatal bodies, private firms and academies. Its holdings of books and journals on economics, banking, finance, accountancy and management (classified according to the Dewey Classification) together with ancillary services such as an extension newspaper clippings section on various subjects make it an information unit which is a leader in its field in Malta. The library started by building a collection of the main reference works needed by the bank and the standard and current works of its main subject areas, it then branched out into the main areas of banking and finance with marginal subjects being introduced according to the varying and increasing needs of the Bank in the light of the changing Maltese economy. The library forms part of the Bank's Research Division, to which it regularly supplies economic and financial data, published reports on domestic and foreign matters of concern to the Bank and government.
