Abstract: This project was designed for a specific aim for the Department of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Malta in association with research and experimentation purposes. The test animal. which is usually a rat. is placed in the test box and as it moves; a number of infra red beams which traverse the enclosure are broken. The computer linked to the equipment polls the sensor data lines to determine the sequence in which the beams are broken. This project considers various monitoring techniques as well as implementing signal processing theory for the analysis of locomotive data.
