Abstract: The qualitative research project was aimed at establishing the level of the young people's self-esteem, linked with unconditional positive regard by their significant others. Based on interviews with youngsters aged between twelve and eighteen years of age, the data collected was divided into a preamble about the general background of those interviewed and two segments on evaluation of the perception of their self-esteem and their experience of unconditional positive regard by their parents. Besides other points, I focused on and found out that the majority were themselves able to control the problems encountered. They could set achievable targets and succeeded in attaining them. They were also able to recognise their strengths and weaknesses. Practically all stated that they were altruists, felt satisfied with themselves and were \\'illing to expose their real selves. The majority also preferred to participate rather than to sit back at social functions. It seemed to me that a happy atmosphere reigned in their families and they were all content in living with both parents. Most of those interviewed felt satisfied with the dialogue held with their parents, although some of them found difficulties in discussing drug-use and particularly contraception and sexuality. The parents' positive reaction to their rnistakes/problems, including support offered regardless of their behaviour, were also expressed. Success was not considered as a must. Various aspirations, particularly for further studies and the encouragement received from their parents, both for studies and sports/hobbies, came to light. Many positive elements were discovered, particularly the presence of the parents' unconditional love with warm and responsive care. As the childhood experiences are bound to effect adult life, it is clear that the upbringing is a good preparation for their adulthood. My effort was also focused on producing a good research, which could later on be further developed from an educational perspective or establishing whether the issue can be related to or influenced by gender.
