Abstract: The primary objective of this research is to delve into the adaptation process that individuals who acquire a visual disability as a result of health complications or accidents go through, with an emphasis on the major challenges encountered and the enablers that are found to be supportive. Another aim of this study is to educate and inform helping professionals, policymakers, and the general public on what can be undertaken to adequately support and empower individuals with visual impairments so that they can fully participate in society. Most importantly, this study hopes to give participants a sense of empowerment so that they can share their messages and recommendations for social progress. Eight participants were interviewed, either in person or online, using a qualitative approach with semi-structured interviews to gain a deeper understanding of one's lived experience. The transcripts were analysed using a thematic analysis approach and common themes were than categorized. The main findings show that this adaptation process was accompanied by a rollercoaster of emotions, particularly shock and anxiety, as well as a sense of hope and growth. Participants conveyed a myriad of challenges, including dependency, discriminatory behaviour, and having to adjust one's hobbies and career. Fortunately, all of the interviewees indicated that they had received support from loved ones. Assistive technology, maintaining a routine, and spirituality are some of the enablers that are making this adaptation process slightly easier for the participants in this study. Participants also shared their own recommendations for a more inclusive society, emphasizing the importance of changing behavioural patterns, restructuring the urban environment to facilitate accessibility, and to increase public awareness
