Abstract: The transition from school to work is a burning issue both for school leavers and educators. In quest for establishing their status, youth face problems encumbering their aspirations and expectations. The country’s economic development and hence the ensuing requirements of manpower may be at odds with the aspirations of youth. Is the new generation at the threshold of work being treated in a fair manner and on equal footing with the rest of the employees at the place of work? The sociological effect of the transition form school to work is delved into. A questionnaire reveals whether or not a randomly selected sample of young Maltese persons work for financial gain only. Or is there, perhaps, something deeper than that. Administrators give their views to compare with those of the young persons regarding knowledge of work. The research carried out at the ETC, ITS and IHC where students are required to take both theoretical and practical sessions in order to obtain their final qualification.
