On Friday 7 December at 18:00, Professor Horatio Vella (Department of Classics & Archaeology), will be delivering a lecture on “He alone in Homer and Virgil’s Aeneid”.
The hero in the Classical epic is so called because he alone succeeds to do what others do not or cannot do. He alone, for example, stays awake when all the rest are asleep, planning for the following event. He alone survives, and to him alone is given the vision for the near and distant future. Prof. Horatio Vella here analyses all the occurrences of "he alone" in Homer and Vergil's Aeneid and discusses their importance for the readers of Classical epic.
This lecture will also commemorate the 40th anniversary of Prof. Vella's illustrious teaching career and will be followed by a Certificate Award Ceremony for those who followed the Association's summer courses, and a Christmas Reception. For booking, kindly contact Mr Samuel Azzopardi at: samuel.azzopardi.14@um.edu.mt
The lecture and reception will both be held at the Rinella Tennis Club.
