The Music Studies Department, at the School of Performing Arts, University of Malta, is pleased to announce a workshop in World Music by Mr Zafer Demir (University of Luxembourg). The workshop will include practical exercises in Indian rhythms, maqām, improvisation and songs from the Middle East.
Mr Demir is a percussionist, saz player and music teacher. He holds a Bachelor of Music degree in World Music from Malmo Academy of Music and a Master’s degree in the same area from the Royal College of Music in Stockholm. Between 2009 and 2011 he studied ethnomusicology and World Music improvisation at Uppsala University. His research interest includes world music pedagogy, jazz, improvisation, and ethnomusicology. He also studied jazz percussion at diploma level at Berklee College of Music.
