An important and now familiar event on the calendar of the Faculty of ICT at UM is the annual exhibition FICTeX coupled with the Dean’s List Awards ceremony. This year the opening ceremony for FICTeX will be held on 12 July at 19:00.
During the exhibition, work developed by the Faculty’s undergraduate final year students and awards acknowledging academic achievement will be showcased. This year, the event will be officially opened by the Hon. Evarist Bartolo, Minister for Education and Employment. Throughout the academic year, the Faculty also frequently hosts and organises various events, seminars, talks and visits, as well as conferences both exclusively and in collaboration with other entities.
This year’s FICTeX will be showcasing around 80 projects, which relate to various aspects of ICT. These projects have different backgrounds and come from various fields of study – touching upon, but not limited to, such themes as genome modelling and data science, data visualisation, game technology, information analytics, software development models, assistive and adaptive technologies, image and video analysis and processing, formal contract analysis, program execution verification, body monitoring, wearable devices, flow management and transport systems, security and surveillance solutions, testing, visualisation, health and wellbeing, speech processing, programming paradigms, entertainment, embedded systems and chip design, data transmission, system modelling, control systems, social media and tools, mobile technologies, video transmission, financial tools, hardware interfacing, user experience, intelligent systems and augmented reality, and many other areas.
As is the spirit and intent of the Faculty, the exhibited projects are a mixture consisting of work that has a more readily discernible applicative nature and other work that has a more fundamental and conceptual nature. Whatever the focus, all projects exhibit a channel towards practical usefulness.
