Prof. Carmel Cefai (Department of Psychology, faculty for Social Wellbeing) would like to invite you to his public lecture in the Professorial Lecture Series on Thursday 10 January at 12:00 at Lecture Theatre 1.
An education for wellbeing and empathic understanding
Education provides a unique opportunity to promote the child’s social and emotional competences and resilience qualities that empower the individual to take responsibility for their own life in a context of emotional resonance and empathic understanding and healthy and collaborative relationships, We will discuss why it is important for children to develop social and emotional competencies in school and how these are related both to their social and emotional wellbeing as well as to their academic learning, mapping the lessons we have learnt in the last 30 years of practice and research in the area.
A response by Dr Natalie Kenely (Department of Social Policy and Social Work) and Prof. Marilyn Clark (Department of Psychology)
