Title: Exchanges, Conflicts and Co-Existence in the Central Mediterranean

The Institute of Mediterranean Studies, Busan University of Foreign Studies in collaboration with the Mediterranean Institute, University of Malta is delighted to announce the 20th International Mediterranean Conference. The conference theme for this edition of the annual conference is ‘Exchanges, Conflicts and Co-Existence in the Central Mediterranean’.
The conference will feature academic presentations across a trans-disciplinary range of scholarly competences around the Mediterranean region, including the cultural dialectics of the central Mediterranean, aspects of Arabic literature, comparative readings of the folktale in Turkey and Sicily, post-medieval multicultural tropes, slavery, the sixteenth-century Ottoman mediterranean, and present-day autobiographical writing in the region amongst others. The Mediterranean Institute’s academic contribution will feature Dr Norbert Bugeja’s discussion life writing and liberal politics in the context of Stephanos Stephanides’s recent memory work.
The conference will be addressed, among others, by H.E. Federico Failla, Italian Ambassador to South Korea, H.E. Choi, Yeon Ho, President of the Korea-Africa Foundation,
Mediterranean Institute Director Dr Jean-Paul Baldacchino and Institute of Mediterranean Studies Director Prof. Yong Soo Yoon.
The two-day conference will be accessible online this Thursday 17 and Friday 18 September. The conference is supported by NRF, BUFS, AFOMEDI, and Hotel Oveday.
