Set your reminder for the Premiere:
The piece is inspired by the character of Shikhandi from Akram Khan’s production Until the lions, an original reworking of the epic Mahabharata. Shikhandi is the reincarnation of Amba who has been abducted in war by a powerful warrior named Bheeshma. He was never able to return Amba’s love and rejected her because he was living in celibacy. Amba wanted justice and revenge. Only as the reincarnation of Shikhandi she was able to seek revenge by transforming into a man and into a warrior. This new body of Shikhandi needed to grow, remember and fulfill his purpose in life. He had to execute Bheeshma who destroyed his soul in the past life which is now a memory of unfulfilled love, anger and injustice.
Akram Khan Company’s production Until the Lions is a partial adaptation of Until the Lions: Echoes from the Mahabharata, a retelling in verse of the Mahabharata by Karthika Naïr
