Prof. Vince Briffa, Head of Department of Digital Arts at the Faculty of Media and Knowledge Sciences, is curating a touring exhibition entitled In Transit: an exhibition of Digital Media Art by artists from Malta, which is currently being exhibited at the NRW-Forum in Düsseldorf and will travel to Leeuwarden in the Netherlands in May 2017. The exhibition forms part of the cultural celebrations on the occasion of Malta assuming the presidency of the Council of the EU in 2017.
In Transit is an exhibition that affirms an interest in the exploration of different relationships to digital technology through the artistic disciplines and practices of contemporary Maltese artists not only from a technology standpoint, but also as a generator of content and concept. This exhibition acts as a snapshot of local media art sensibility within the broader, international perspective. The exhibition showcases a variety of home-grown conceptual dialogues of relevance to an international audience, as they are individually interpreted and developed by the island’s up and coming artistic generation, some of whom were or are still studying at the Department of Digital Arts.
Activities parallel to the exhibition include gallery talks in both venues by Prof. Briffa and a two-day creative workshop to students of Friesland College in Leeuwarden by two Masters and Ph.D. students from the Department of Digital Arts.
In Transit is supported by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Malta Arts Council and Valletta 2018.
