Join the post-graduate diploma in Maltese Sign Language Interpreting commencing in March 2018 organised by the Institute of Linguistics and Language Technology at the University of Malta.
Duration: 2 years part-time
Start: March 2018
The course will constitute the qualification for interpreting from and to Maltese Sign Language, Maltese and English.
Entry requirements: Bachelor’s degree, proficiency in Maltese Sign Language* (up to Intermediate/Level 2), spoken and written Maltese and spoken and written English as well as aptitude .
Interview: An interview will be held to determine applicants’ aptitude and proficiency in the three languages.
Lectures may be held in the evenings, on Saturdays and during recess.
Maltese Sign Language interpreters work in many different settings where there is interaction between Deaf people for whom Maltese Sign Language is their preferred language. These settings include schools, colleges, University, health centres and hospitals, law courts as well as meeting with insurance agents, banks. Applicants are advised to visit the Deaf club prior to applying for the course and to find out more about the Deaf community.

* A short intensive course in Maltese Sign Language will be organised to enable applicants to reach level 2/intermediate proficiency in Maltese Sign Language before the interviews which will be held to determine language proficiency and aptitude.
