A group of Luther College students and faculty, while in Malta
Paul J. Gardner, Luther College, writes:
'Luther College, an American college of 2000 students, has had a spring semester programme in Malta for forty years.
Hundreds of Luther students and more than 25 Luther faculty and families have been enriched by the academic excellence of the University of Malta and the cultural experience of living in Malta and traveling throughout the Mediterranean.
University of Malta faculty and staff work closely with Luther College and Luther students on registration for classes, residence permit applications, and service learning opportunities. University of Malta faculty provide the lectures for two courses Luther students must take, History: Malta and the Maltese & Contemporary Issues in Malta and the Mediterranean.
These lectures together with University of Malta classes Luther students take in their chosen areas of study exemplify the best of international education, with instructors often world class scholars. Luther students in Malta are international students and so are required to have a residence permit to stay beyond 90 days.
The residence permit process is complicated everywhere but this process is made manageable at the University of Malta by an excellent International Student Office staff who provide help and personal attention at every step of the process. The University of Malta also provides service learning opportunities through its Chaplaincy and Degree/Plus offices.
For example, one of the Luther College students in 2018 was connected with the Biological Conservation Research Foundation with the end result being an essay published in Malta's Sunday Independent newspaper.
Studying at the University of Malta and living in Malta provides Luther students and faculty directors a first rate study abroad experience.'
