Prof. Holger Mitterer from the Department of Cognitive Science at the Faculty of Media and Knowledge Sciences has recently become the (joint) Editor-In-Chief of the journal Language and Speech.
This interdisciplinary journal is traditionally headed by a psychologist and a linguist. Together with his colleague, Prof. Cynthia Clopper from Ohio State University, he now published an editorial that introduces the format of registered report at Language and Speech. In this format, researchers propose a study with a detailed plan laying down all details of design and analysis. This plan is then sent out for review and, if evaluated positively, provisionally accepted. The results will then be published independent of the outcome. This format should help to battle the replication crises in psychology and related fields and foster the feasibility of replication studies. Language and Speech is among the first journals in linguistics to adopt this format.
