Dr Noel Aquilina from the Department of Geosciences at the University of Malta was invited by the Director of the Leicester Institute of Space and Earth Observations, Professor Martin Barstow, Dr Teresa Raventos-Durant and Dr Neil Humpage at the University of Leicester, UK to share knowledge associated with how to model complex processes such as personal exposure to pollutants on 28 June 2019. A presentation was given to doctoral students and post-doctoral staff on how to use generally limited available data in order to model personal exposure to pollutants, that is not trivial, in various environments or different target groups.
As recently Dr Aquilina has published a novel application of machine learning algorithms applied to model personal exposure to Benzene, great interest was shown to cross-disciplinary research and on translation of technology, from sampling and artificial intelligence to environmental and epidemiological applications.
