The course Designing, Delivering and Evaluating Online Study Units kicked off with a two-hour face to face workshop at the UM on 5 February 2020.
Led by Prof Colla Macdonald with the support of Ms Naomi Mifsud and Mr James Cilia, this 9-week course provides academic staff with the basic knowledge and skills required to design, deliver and evaluate eLearning education.
35 academic staff from last year’s waiting list of applicants were in attendance in addition to two academic staff from universities in Italy, Cyprus, Slovenia and Finland.
The eight international academic staff participated via live stream video. The overseas candidates represent the partnering countries in the ERAMUS+ Digital Initiatives and Timely-Solutions (Dig-IT) project. These universities are La Sapienza University, Rome, Cyprus University, Cyprus, University of Primorska, Slovenia and JAMK University, Finland.
The remaining course content will be delivered entirely online.
It is expected that participants taking the course will facilitate the use of eLearning at their respective department, faculty or university. The Dig-IT project will design and deliver a follow up train-the-trainer course in October 2020 to up scale the teaching of and demand for Designing, Delivering and Evaluating Online Study Units course in the future.
The Dig-IT project is managed by Prof Colla MacDonald and Dr Maria Cassar who are members of the Distance Education Committee chaired by Pro Rector, Prof Saviour Zammit.
