The Department of Information Policy and Governance of the University of Malta is participating in a project called MIRROR (Migration-Related Risks caused by Misconceptions of Opportunities and Requirement), funded under the Horizon 2020 program.
The project brings together a multidisciplinary, pan-European consortium consisting of 14 partners from different fields such as research, industry, civil society organisations and border control agencies with the aim to develop a platform and a set of tools for the comprehensive inter-media analysis of the perception of Europe.
The latest project newsletter announces the achievement of the first milestone, which involves the identification of a set of requirements to be addressed by the MIRROR platform.
The priorities and main personas will need to focus on the platform’s ability for social media and multi-media analysis, information aggregation and validation of information, foresight and identification of threats, and other items explained in more details in the newsletter.
Additionally, the project partners have also established the MIRROR Architecture and Integration Plan, which represents the first fundamental layer for the foundation of the MIRROR system.
The newsletter also reveals what is coming up next in the project, in particular the field studies which will be led by the University of Vienna with the objective of getting insights into the media usage and perceptions arising at different stages during the process of irregular migration.
A list of all publications, presentations and submissions developed as part of the research activities are also included in the newsletter.
The IPG Department of the University of Malta is currently contributing to the project by developing the analysis of threats to be included and detected by the MIRROR system, as well as by coordinating the piloting of the MIRROR system in Malta, Austria and Sweden.
For more insights on these developments, the latest newsletter can be read in its entirety.
