maksnews is the name of the new newsletter being issued by the Faculty of Media and Knowledge Sciences.
It will serve as a frequent way to update members of the Faculty with new appointments, research seminars, the latest student news and highlight creative collaborations with entities other than the University itself, especially in such times where face-to-face communication is discouraged. A new edition will be published quarterly.
“The lack of physical contact among students and staff because of the pandemic has made us scramble to find alternatives, and this newsletter is one way of reaching out to the members of our faculty about what goes on, very often behind the scenes, and of which they are often unaware. This, along with frequent Zoom meetings, and of course our online lectures, helps keep the community strong in the face of a very strong challenge”, said Prof. Mallia, Head of the Department of Media & Communications, who designed the newsletter following feedback by members of the Faculty board, the Dean and the other heads of departments.
Mr Ayrton Deguara, Manager I at the Faculty, is responsible for receiving article submissions, the dissemination to all MAKS members and promotion on the Faculty's social media pages.
Among other things, the February edition includes a feature about the Faculty’s Research Seminar Series, an update on the most recent campaigns by MKSA, the Media & Knowledge Sciences Association, and a feature on Rebecca Anastasi, a MAKS graduate and current Ph.D. student who was the lead producer on the award-winning Maltese film, Luzzu. It also includes a feature on MAKS students sounding out their reaction to online lecturing.
“I would have much preferred welcoming you in happier times when we could all meet on campus as usual without the currently-obligatory face masks, but life must go on and dark times require even brighter lights”, wrote Prof. Noellie Brockdorff, Dean of the Faculty, in the Dean's Note.
