The nominations are in: Two candidates have been nominated by Council members for the election of Rector due to take place later on this month.
Prof. Alfred J. Vella, who already holds the position of the 81st Rector of the University of Malta, has been named as one of the two candidates for this upcoming election, seeking a second term as Rector.
Prof. Frank Bezzina, the Dean of the Faculty of Economics, Management & Accountancy, is the second nominee.
The nominations were submitted before the established deadline of noon of Thursday 11 March 2021.
An extraordinary meeting of Council shall now convene on Thursday 25 March, whereby members of the Council, presided by the President of the Council, Perit Karmenu Vella, shall vote in a secret ballot and behind closed doors and make their choice, electing the Rector for a five-year term of office.
Both candidates will be asked to give a presentation and reply to questions posed to them by members of the Council during this extraordinary meeting.
