The Annual Company Law Conference was recently held at the Aula Magna, Valletta Campus. This annual conference is the best attended activity organised by the Chamber of Advocates, through its academic foundation, the Malta Law Academy.
Dr David Fabri, a member of the Faculty of Laws since 1995, has once again been entrusted with the organisation of this conference for the 20th consecutive year.
The Conference was opened by Justice Ian Spiteri Bailey who currently presides over court cases dealing with company law issues. Apart from the general plenary session, this year’s conference also focused on Insolvency and Company Restructuring.
The plenary session covered a variety of interesting topics such as company law developments between 2021 and 2022 (Dr David Fabri), insider dealing law in Malta (Prof. Andrew Muscat), and the fall-out from the FATF grey-listing (Mr Marcel Cassar).
This is the first time that the bulk of proceedings was dedicated to the subject of Insolvency. The two keynote speakers for this session were Dr Tiziana Filletti and Dr Kevan Azzopardi. A panel discussion followed moderated by Dr Ivan Vella and including leading legal practitioners; Dr Conrad Portanier, Dr Arthur Galea Salomone, Dr Ian Stafrace and Dr Reuben Balzan who all contributed to a lively exchange of views.
All the various speakers and panel members lecture or have lectured at the Faculty of Laws.
