John Dewey, Education and the Mediterranean: Another EMCER volume published by Brill.
The 10th volume in the EMCER series on Comparative Education and the Mediterranean has just been published by Brill, an international publishing house with headquarters in Leiden. The book was co-edited by Professor Maura Striano (University Federico II of Naples), together with EMCER director, Professor Ronald G. Sultana.
This is the 34th number of a series of EMCER publications which started off as the Mediterranean Journal of Educational Studies (24 issues since 1996), and which then continued as a series of thematic volumes, first published by Sense, and recently taken over by Brill. Professor Sultana is the founding General Editor.
The 17 chapters and 29 authors in the book explore the impact of John Dewey - a leading American representative of pragmatism and of progressivist education - on the Mediterranean region, an influence which was both complex and contested, and which entailed reception, adaptation, and resistance of ideas, reflecting the tangled web of political aspirations and imperial interests.
